History of In This Together

How We Started

Kitchener, Ontario-based organization Pastors in Exile (PiE) hosted an event in April of 2019 called Beyond Binaries: Creating an Affirming Church. Over 100 people gathered to worship, lament, and envision the journey towards an inclusive church. A group of interested people gathered after that event to envision a network of people and resources for Anabaptists across Canada. A smaller group of people committed to seeing the vision forward, who have created what is now In This Together (ITT).

What We've Done

In February of 2020, groups gathered in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta to dream about what In This Together could become. Out of those great discussions came the Mission, Vision, Values and Goals of In This Together.

The committee has met on a regular basis, discussing the structure and goals of the network. We have worked to create a logo and this website, gathered resources and made connections with Anabaptists across Canada.

In This Together has been asked to host workshops, lead discussions, and connect folks across the country in both Mennonite and Mennonite Brethren contexts. We will have a significant presence at the Mennonite Church Canada gathering in summer 2022.

Where We're Going

This is an ongoing conversation! ITT is in the process of finalizing how it is organized from a governance and operations perspective. At this point in time, our plan is to organize around regions and chapters (details to come). The life of the organization will come from its members. Membership will have two main paths: Individual membership and chapter membership. Connect with us to keep updated and to give your suggestions for resources, workshops, and initiatives.
